Glendo Lake Trails
If you’ve participated with our race in the past two years, you should already know what is coming. COURSE CHANGES!!! For the past two years we’ve had folks either get lost, go the wrong way, or cut the course either intentionally or not. I’ve come to expect and accept this. (Just y’all wait for what I’ve got planning for our fifth anniversary!) So with that being said, this year I’ll give you more accurate information…but it is still up to you to follow them!
60K Race
If you’re here because you’re considering the 60K distance, this is the important information you’ll need. NO NOVICES WILL BE ALLOWED TO REGISTER! Racers wanting to enter will need to contact me directly at [email protected] with proof of a prior trail ultra finish within the past three years in order to be invited to register via Ultrasignup. I realize this is a bit harsh and if you’re not familiar with these technical trails or the distance (37+ miles isn’t for the faint of heart), trust me when I say it would be a very, very long day for you. The 60K course will be two loops of our 30K course with a much earlier start time to keep runners out of the late morning heat we’ve experienced the past two years. 60K racers unable to complete the first loop in under 4 hours and 30 minutes will not be allowed to continue.
30K and 60K Courses
So about that 30K and 60K course…some things never change such as the start and finish area. The start line will remain the same at the Two Moons campground shelter area. Racers will have only a ¼ mile of pavement to sort yourselves out until you turn onto the Broken Bow trail at trailhead (TH 30). If you raced with us in the past, that part is the same until you reach TH 34. Where we’ve had you turn right, you now will head left onto Two Moon Loop trail. Here you will experience amazing views of the lake if you’re not in a hurry…just please pay attention and try not run off the ledge! After following Two Moon Loop trail around to the first campground road entrance, you’ll head across the road onto Buffalo Run trail which will allow you to really pick up some speed with some spectacular views of Laramie Peak! Following running Buffalo Run in its entirety, you’ll continue onto Reflector Loop for approximately a ¼ mile passing TH 40 and 41 to TH 46 where you’ll head down Root Canal to the Wetland Trailhead and aid station #1 at mile 4.05. We’ll then send you on your merry way onto Rocky River trail past TH 48, 57 and 58 where you’ll pick up the Wetlands two-track road. In just over 1/10 of a mile you’ll hang a right up and onto Thunder trail (TH 85). This seems to be the area that confuses a lot of folks so slow down and look for our trail markers! STAY ON THUNDER!!! (If any of you continue onto Feather Rim you will have a very, very long day…and I will be highly amused. Consider this your only warning.) At TH 81 stay right to the wooden bridge and then stay right again on Arrowhead trail. Remember the aid station at the road crossing the past two years? Well, its not there because you’ll only have ran 6.5 miles at this point. Continue up Arrowhead (the two-track road) to TH 23 and hang a right onto Toadstool trail. Close to TH 18 around mile 8.2 is where we plan to set up aid station #2. This is also where you’ll be directed to continue on Toadstool to the turn around at TH 16. Its at this point you’ll turn BACK onto Narrows Bluff and back to the same aid station which will be around mile 11.0. Yes…aid station #2 is also aid station #3. If you fail to turn back at TH 16…you’ll end up at Sandy Beach. You do not want to continue on to Sandy Beach. Trust me! We haven’t formally decided what our plan is at this time, however be aware that you’ll be bringing some sort of proof back to our aid station folks of having ran all the way out to TH 16 via Toadstool and back via Narrows Bluff. Once you’ve checked in and out of aid station #3, you’ll continue on Narrows Bluff past TH 19 and 20 to TH 8. Here you’ll stay right onto Slide Hill past TH 7 (stay right) and 6 (stay right) to TH 5 (stay left) which will ultimately leads you to TH 3, the junction of Slide Hill and Sunset Point trails. Here turn left to TH 2 which’ll lead you to aid station #4 at the Dam Overlook Trailhead around mile 14.3. Parking will be available if any your family or friends want to drivable spot to cheer you on as well as a restroom. From here you’ll cross the road to TH 10 and take a sharp right on to Barrel Roll trail. You will pass by TH 82 (stay right) and 80 (stay right) and 84 (stay left). At TH 83 take a SHARP RIGHT which will lead you to TH 59, the Wetlands two-track road. This year you’ll stay on the two-track road all the way back to the Wetlands Trailhead aid station around mile 16.7. Yes…aid station #1 is also #5 this year! You’ll be directed across the parking lot onto Renegade trail and turning right at TH 50, you’ll head up 91 Gigawatt. At TH 40 hang a right back on to Reflector Loop past TH 41, past TH 46, past TH 45, staying left at TH 43 to TH 42. Once you cross the road you’re almost home! Turn left at TH 30 and follow Two Moon Loop back to the shelter and the finish!
Unless you’re in it for the 60K…in which case you get to do it all over again!
Yes the trails will be marked but be aware that we do not have the authority to close any trails or place a “WRONG WAY” sign in the middle of a trail. Please remember it’s a state park and other runner, hikers and/or mountain bikers may be on the trail at any given point. We can not hold your hand and guide you through the course. Please do your part to look at the Glendo State Park trail map in conjunction with the above description.

10K Course
And now for the 10K! If you are new to trail running or to Glendo’s trails, or frankly don’t feel motivated to run 18+ miles, consider the 10K. We don’t believe in time limits or race cutoffs so grab a pair of hiking boots or trekking poles and check out this distance. The start line is the same as the 30K and 60K at the Two Moon Shelter and well give you ¼ mile of pavement to separate the tortoises from the hares before converging onto the Broken Bow trailhead (TH) 30. If you raced with us in the past, that part is the same until you reach TH 34. Where we’ve had you turn right, you now will head left onto Two Moon Loop trail. Here you will experience amazing views of the lake if you’re not in a hurry…just please pay attention and try not run off the ledge! Once you cross the road you’re almost home! Turn left at TH 30 and follow Two Moon Loop back to the shelter and the finish!
I know, I know…it all sounds confusing and overwhelming but we will have course markers out on course as well as folks to help guide your way…and a map at check-in with both courses marked out…as well as race day morning instructions. I honestly don’t want y’all to get lost (….this year) and will do everything in our power to keep you safe and out on course but ultimately its up to you! Please do your part to familiarize yourself with the Glendo State Park trail map in conjunction with my super stellar descriptions.
Got it? Good.

Aid Stations
Something I can assure you of, is that we will have aid stations for you runners with “something special” to wet your palate in addition to a variety of fruit, candy and granola bars. If you’re one of those runners that has a delicate gut and requires some special kind of nutrition…good on you…and you’d better bring it yourself. Something that hasn’t changed from last year is that our race is a cup-less event because even though we want to show off Glendo’s trails, we don’t want to pick up your trash. You pack it in, you pack it out!
Glendo Lake TrailsPrizesWith our new 60K course this year, we wanted to award something special to the overall male and female winners. It will be something that the winners can proudly display to show their accomplishment! It's so
"special" that you'll have to wait to see it on race day! If you ran our race last year, you’d know that we gave out some pretty sweet handmade custom knives built by Jon Cook. If you have never owned a custom handmade knife complete with hand stitched leather sheath, they’re pretty sharp both figuratively and literally! The 30K overall male and female winners will both receive one of the epic knives. The 10K overall male and female winners will be able to show off their efforts taking home a custom designed stainless steel tumbler. |
